Bror Ida Lennartsson
Artist in residence, Stockholm, 16 May – 27 October 2024
Bror Ida Lennartsson represents a broad understanding of sculpture across various media, where the core is the tactile handling of the material and its affective possibilities with regard to social constructions of the Other. In their works Lennartsson explores the balancing act between private and collective signs within different systems — biological, psychological, cultural. Their attempt is to externalize the complex affects that result from confronting the internalized rejection of the body, its organs, and fluids, to shift or set in motion notions of nature and culture.
During their time at IASPIS, Lennartsson will continue their research on the abject body and work on their ongoing project that circulates around sickness, fragility and care.
Bror Ida Lennartsson has presented their work in various international contexts, most recently in the Kunstverein Springhornhof, Gruppe Motto Hamburg, Germany (2024); Studio20, BcmA Berlin, Germany; Mörby gård Konst, Stockholm, Sweden (2023); GAK Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst Bremen, Beton Berlin, Germany (2022); and Veli Iz Cultural Center, Iz, Croatia (2021); among others.
