Jonna Kina

Jonna Kina lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Kina works across a variety of mediums including sound, sculpture, film, language, performance and installation. By unveiling and deconstructing forms and methods, the works often incorporate narratives of translation and transformation as a link between the viewer and the artwork.
At IASPIS she will continue to expand her latest site-specific sound piece which was commissioned by Fullersta Gård and premiered in June 2023 at the Huddinge Kyrka, in Stockholm.
She graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts and from Aalto University, School of Arts, department of photography. She has also studied at the School of Visual Arts, New York, and in Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. Her works have been widely presented in numerous international exhibitions and festivals, such as e-Flux Video & Film, Words Takeover program, curated by Julian Ross (2022); Berlinale Forum Expanded (2021); Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia (2022); Espoo Museum of Modern Art EMMA (2019); Kumu Art Museum, Tallinn (2022), International Film Festival Rotterdam (2018); Moscow Biennale for Young Art (2018). Her film ‘Arr. for a Scene’ was awarded Best Nordic Short Film (2017) by Nordisk Panorama. She was shortlisted for the VISIO Young Talent Acquisition Prize in Florence (2017) and was the winner of the VIDS Media Art Prize by Lappeenranta Art Museum (2021). In 2022 She received the William Thuring Prize by The Finnish Art Association. She is represented by the Helsinki Contemporary Gallery. Next her works will be featured at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2024).
