- How to write an application
On this page we will go through what to think about when writing an application. In the example below, we focus on the application for a working grant within visual arts and applied arts.
Consider this before starting an application:
- Read the instructions in the application carefully and follow them.
- Think about who is the recipient, who is the reader?
- Be clear in your descriptions and let someone else read your application before submitting.
- Select recent work samples.
- Apply in good time!
We primarily recommend applying through our e-service. You can log in with Bank ID or create a login with email and password. Below we go through the structure of the application.
On the first page of the application form, you enter your personal details. The personal identity number is written YYYYMMDD-XXXX. If you are missing a Swedish personal identity number, click on “missing a Swedish personal identity number” and enter your date of birth YYYYMMDD.
If you log in with BankID, your civil registration address is automatically retrieved. If you have a Swedish personal identity number but are not registered in Sweden, you need to check the box that says “No Swedish personal identity number ” and then you can enter your address manually.
Enter the e-mail address where you want to receive a confirmation of the received application and the Notice of Decision.
Under bank details, it is important that you select the correct bank in the drop-down list to enter the correct number of digits for the clearing number and account number. If you have Swedbank with 5 digits in the clearing number, select “Swedbank och fristående Sparbanker” in the drop-down list of proposed banks. If you have a personal account (personkonto) with Nordea, select “Nordea, Personkonto”.
Education is not a requirement to be granted a scholarship. However, you cannot be granted a scholarship if you are a student at more than 50 percent when the decision is made. If you do not have an education, tick the box “I have no post-secondary education”.
If you have one or more educations, you must enter the name and location of the school, program/major (e.g. art, architecture), rate of study (%), year of graduation and month of graduation.
Here you state whether you conduct your activities in corporate form. You also have the option to indicate whether you carry out your artistic activity in any other form, e.g. sole proprietorship, limited liability company, trading company or other.
Under this tab, you also indicate whether you have an employment. If you have an employment, you must state the employer, percentage of employment (e.g. 50 percent of full-time), etc. If you are self-employed with or without your own company, you do not need to fill in the employer.
Art form and artist category
Here you enter art form (e.g. Visual arts and applied arts), artist category e.g. visual artist. You also have the option of specifying subcategories for certain artist categories. Your choice here affects who reviews your application. We use the categories to distribute applications to members who have expertise in your field. However, the final selection is always discussed by all members who represent different artist categories.

Here you have the opportunity to develop your thoughts about how you would work with the help of a grant. Describe for example how it would affect your artistic activity and if there is something specific you plan to work on in the coming year.
De minimis aid
”De minimis aid” can be both in the form of grants and subsidies from the public sector. The forms of support that individual artists are most likely to be covered by are, in addition to the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s scholarships and grants, certain support from the Authors’ Fund. But also specially targeted business support from e.g. Almi, Arbetsförmedlingen, Tillväxtverket, Vinnova and regions may be relevant. It may also apply to a reduction in social security contributions for entrepreneurs.
De minimis aid is also called “stöd av mindre betydelse” in Swedish.
How do I know if a grant counts as de minimis aid? This must be stated in connection with the announcement of the grant. It must also appear in the Notice of Decision.
Financial circumstances and taxed income
You will find the information about the taxed income (fastställd förvärvsinkomst) in the information you received from the Swedish Tax Agency, final tax notice for the last three income years. You can also find this information if you log in to “My pages” with your e-identification on the Swedish Tax Agency’s website, go to the Menu and select Private, then Taxes and declarations and then “Beslutade skatteuppgifter”. There you can download the data for the recent years.
To activate the fields for the work samples, you first need to enter the art form under the Activities tab. For visual arts and applied arts, it is mandatory to attach 5-10 files. Choose recent work samples that are representative of your art, preferably from the last two years. Bear in mind that it may be helpful to include close-ups of your work and images that show your work in context.
For visual arts and applied arts, the approved size (MB) for each file format is: jpg (2MB), mp3 (20 MB), mp4 and mov (50 MB).
You also have the option of adding supplementary links to the application.
