Välkommen på konstnären Alex Cecchettis performanceverk Sentiero, som undersöker sambandet mellan poesi, ekologiskt tänkande och utommänsklig kunskap. Projektet uruppfördes i Val Gardena på Biennale Gherdëina 2022, Italien.

Besökaren togs på en individuell vandringstur längs en bergsstig tillsammans med sin egen personliga guide som skapade koreografier inspirerade av himlakropparnas rörelser och årstidernas växling, berättade historier, reciterade dikter, sjöng visor och uppmuntrade publiken att omvärdera sitt förhållande till naturen.

Med en blandning av poesiuppläsning, video och naturinslag presenterar Cecchetti på IASPIS en omslutande performance som tar publiken på en både fysisk och fiktiv resa. Hur kalibrerar vi om vår andliga och ekologiska perspektiv i samspel med det icke-mänskliga (som till exempel växter, mineraler och djur)? Och hur anpassar vi oss till deras sätt att skapa mening och världar? Och vilken är fantasins roll i den processen?

Alex Cecchetti uppmärksammar i sin konst de små men betydelsefulla nyanser i mening, känsla och perspektiv som öppnar publiken för kreativa upplevelser av inre förvandling. Sentiero ingår i en serie verk där konstnären utforskar vandringar och turer som kraftfulla fiktiva upplevelser – ett slags performativt berättande som undersöker relationen mellan fantasi, poesi och publikengagemang.

Efter uruppförandet på Biennale Gherdëina sommaren 2022 har projektet visats på TAXISPALAIS Kunsthalle Tirol i Innsbruck (Österrike), Somalgors74 i Tschlin (Schweiz), Cove Park (Skottland), och MAXXI AQUILA (Italien). SENTIERO kommer sedan att ingå i den permanenta samlingen på MUSEION – Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea, i Bolzano.

2021 tilldelades konstnären ett Ambito 3-stipendium för projektet av Italian Councils 10:e upplaga, det italienska kulturdepartementets program för att främja italiensk samtidskonst i världen.

Alex Cecchettis verk handlar om att konstruera berättelser som publiken kan uppleva med både tanken och kroppen. Taktilt och poetiskt, estetiskt och materiellt, politiskt och fantasifullt skapar han omslutande situationer för en ekologisk omställning av medvetandet. Bland konstnärens separatutställningar på senare tid märks Casa da Cerca, CAC (Almada, PT, 2021); Netwerk Aalst, CCA (Aalst, BE, 2020); Spike Island (Bristol, UK); Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin, IT), Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej, Zamek Ujazdowski (Warszawa, PL, 2017). Installationer och performanceverk: MAXXI (Rom, IT, 2021, 2020), SEMA Seoul Museum of Art (Söul, KR) 2020; Castello di Rivoli (2019, 2020) och Serpentine Galleries (London, UK, 2019); Palais de Tokyo (Paris, FR, 2017, 2014); Centre Pompidou (Paris, FR, 2017 och 2014). Han tilldelades Amedeo Modigliani-priset 2020.

Welcome to a performance with artist Alex Cecchetti, titled Sentiero, which explores the relationship between poetry, environmental sensitivity and more-than-human knowledge.

Presented for the first time in Val Gardena for Biennale Gherdëina 2022 (BZ), this project takes the audience on one-to-one walks along a mountain path: trained guides create choreographies inspired by the celestial movements that cause seasonal change, tell stories, recite poetry, sing songs and invite the public to reconsider their relationship to the environment.

Through a combination of poetry reading, video and natural elements at IASPIS, Cecchetti creates an immersive performance to guide the audience on a physical and imaginary journey. How to reconfigure spiritual and environmental sensitivity in collaboration with the non-human (plants, mineral, animals etc)? And how to attune to their sense-making and world-making? And how can the imagination further this processes?

Alex Cecchetti’s practice pays attention to the small yet significant shifts of meaning, sensation and perception that open up audiences to imaginative experiences of inner transformation. Sentiero belongs to the artist’s series of works that consider walking and touring as powerful imaginary experiences: performative storytelling exploring the relationship between fantasy, poetry and audience participation.

After the inaugural presentation at Biennale Gherdëina in the summer 2022, the project was shown at TAXISPALAIS Kunsthalle Tirol in Innsbruck (Austria), Somalgors74 in Tschlin (Switzerland), Cove Park (Scotland), and MAXXI AQUILA (Italy). SENTIERO will eventually be part of the permanent collection at MUSEION—Museum of Contemporary Art in Bolzano.

The artist and this project were included in the 10th edition of the Italian Council (2021), an initiative to promote Italian contemporary art internationally by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

Alex Cecchetti’s work focuses on the construction of narratives experienced both mentally and physically by the audience. Tactile and poetic, aesthetic and physical, political and imaginative, it produces immersive situations for the ecological transformation of consciousness. The artist’s recent solo exhibitions include Casa da Cerca, CAC (Almada, PT, 2021); Netwerk Aalst, CCA (Aalst, BE 2020), Spike Island (Bristol, UK); Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Torino), Centre For Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw, POL) in 2017. Installations and performances: MAXXI (Rome, 2021, 2020), SEMA Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul, KOR) 2020; Castello di Rivoli (2019, 2020) and Serpentine Galleries (London, UK), in 2019; Palais de Tokyo (Paris, 2017, 2014); Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2017 and 2014). He is the winner of the Amedeo Modigliani Prize 2020.
