IASPIS expertbesök i Sapmi, Norge, Sverige och Finland,  20 augusti – 4 september 2023

Under två veckor i augusti och september 2023, kommer Curatorial Program for Research tillsammans med internationella partners och lokala värdar att bjuda in sju internationella curatorer till sin åttonde researchresa i Sapmi, Norge, Sverige och Finland. Med ett djupt engagemang för curatorers arbetssituation och intresse att möjliggöra professionellt utbyte, kommer detta unikt designade program att introducera internationella curatorer till de levande konstscenerna i några av de största städerna i Norden såväl som dess nordligaste regioner.

Vår jury har valt ut deltagare från olika delar av världen som kommer att ta med sig egna kunskaper och erfarenheter till samtal om de ämnen som är angelägna för konstnärerna som de kommer att träffa under resan. CPR:s intensiva program med kulturella och konstnärliga utbyten främjar internationella samarbeten efter programmet, som äger rum under månaderna och åren efter en genomförd resa.

Curatorial Program for Researchs grundare Carmen Ferreyra säger:

– ”Curatorer kommer att få en djup inblick i de mest angelägna politiska, sociala och estetiska frågorna för samtida konstnärer i Norden under programmet. Lokala värdar, experter och konstnärer kommer också att ge en förståelse för historien som har format dagens samhällen. Deltagarna kommer också att få insikter kring de teman som format programmet: koloniseringen av Sapmi, representation av minoriteter och hur det knyter an till lokala och globala angelägenheter såsom miljö- och hållbarhetsfrågor.”

Genom expertisen hos viktiga lokala samarbetspartners, och kompletterande instudering av texter om lokal sociopolitisk historia, kommer curatorerna att delta i ett konceptuellt format program med besök i konstnärsateljéer och hos konstinstitutioner – en intensiv introduktion till den konstnärliga praktiken, produktionen och representationen av de platser som besöks samt en unik möjlighet att knyta kontakter.

De besökande curatorerna ger också tillbaka till platserna de besöker genom att erbjuda offentliga presentationer om det arbete de bedriver i sin hemmavid och genom att delta i kritiska samtal med värdar och konstnärer längst med resan. Det som startar som formella eller informella samtal under vårt program leder vanligtvis till faktiska samarbeten inom de närmaste åren.

Sedan CPR:s lansering 2015 har organisationen utökat sin räckvidd med en ny utställningsyta i New York och residens för nordiska konstnärer i Buenos Aires och New York. CPR har finansierat över 80 konstnärs- och curatorstipendier och har arbetat för att gynna underrepresenterade grupper av konstnärer över hela världen.

CPR 2023: (Re) Presentation in the Nordics

IASPIS Expert Visits in Sapmi, Norway, Sweden and Finland, August 20 – September 4, 2023

During two weeks, in August and September 2023, the Curatorial Program for Research together with international partners and local hosts will invite seven international curators to its eighth research program in Sapmi, Norway; Sweden and Finland. With a strong commitment to supporting curators and enabling professional exchange, this uniquely designed program will introduce international curators to the vibrant art scenes at some of the main cities in the Nordics as well as its northernmost region.

Our jury has selected participants from various parts of the world who will bring their own knowledge and experiences to conversations about the topics that are urgent for the artists they will meet during the travels. CPR intense programs of visits with cultural and artistic exchanges foster post-program international collaborations that take place in the months and years following a visit.

Curatorial Program for Research’s Founding Director Carmen Ferreyra states:

– “Curators will get a deep insight into the most urgent political, social and aesthetic issues for contemporary artists in the Nordics during the program. Local hosts, experts and artists will also provide an understanding of the history that has formed today’s societies. Curators will get insights into the main subject of our program: the colonization of Sapmi, other minority representations, and how that connects to local and global concerns today including environmental and sustainability issues.”

Through the expertise of key local collaborators, and complemented by readings about local socio-political history, curators will partake in a conceptually connected program of visits to artist studios and art institutions – an immersive introduction to the artistic practice, production, and dissemination in the host locations and an opportunity to connect with peers.

The visiting curators also give back to the communities by offering public presentations about the work they are conducting in their home environment and by engaging in critical conversations with hosts and artists in the places we visit. The conversations that start as formal or informal chats during our program typically lead to actual collaborations within the next few years.

Since CPR’s  launch in 2015, the organization has expanded its reach with a new exhibition space in New York and residencies for Nordic artists in Buenos Aires and New York. CPR has funded over 80 artist and curatorial fellowships and has worked towards the representation of underserved artistic communities worldwide.
